  21. The basic information on how to use Neiki are in the USER'S
  22. GUIDE. The USER'S GUIDE is included as a Windows Write
  23. document.  It was be copied in the directory where you have
  24. installed this software. The name of the file is NEIKI12.WRI

  29. 1. Starting the program and creating the icon
  30. ---------------------------------------------
  31.  
  32. If you can read this, then you have extracted the other files
  33. (including NATK12.EXE) from the ZIP files. (If not, please
  34. read NATK12.TXT).
  35.  
  36. Here is how to start the program for the first time and create
  37. its icon:
  38.  
  39.    You can browse on your hard disk with FILE MANAGER and
  40.    double-click on the NATK12.EXE program file 
  41.  
  42.    OR follow these instructions:
  43.  
  44.    NOTE: The example given here assumes that you decided to 
  45.          copy files in the directory above mentioned, C:\NEIKI
  46.  
  47.    1) From within Windows Program Manager, choose the menu
  48.       "File", select item "Run".
  49.  
  50.    2) Type
  51.         c:\neiki\natk12
  52.       and press
  53.         ENTER

  55.    3) Follow the instructions on screen.

  60. 2. Requirements for version 1.2:
  61. --------------------------------

  63.  The following hardware and software items are required
  64.  to run "Neiki's Astro Tool Kit":
  65.  
  66.     []  a 386 or 486 PC with 4 MB of RAM  (8 MB is better)
  67.  
  68.     []  Windows 3.1
  69.  
  70.     []  2 MB of disk space where you decide to install the
  71.     application.

  75. 3. Math Co-Processor performances
  76. ---------------------------------
  77.  
  78. On a 386 DX (40 MHz) without Math Co-Processor, computing a
  79. chart takes 2.6 seconds.
  80.  
  81. On a 486 DX (33 MHz) with Math Co-Processor, it takes less than
  82. 0.2 second.

  87. 4. Solutions to problems with ICON creation
  88. -------------------------------------------
  89.  
  90. In some odd cases (if you have removed some files from
  91. \windows\system), you might have problems while creating an
  92. icon for "NATK" in Program Manager...
  93.  
  94.  Error:        "Error loading DLL ..."
  95.  
  96.  Solution:  Make shure that the file DDEML.DLL is in your
  97.         C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  98.  
  99.         It should look like this:
  100.  
  101.         ddeml.dll   38,400 .a.. 28-04-93  0:00:00
  102.  
  103.         If DDEML.DLL is not good or suspect, use the
  104.         EXPAND.EXE program to copy DDEML.DL_ from the
  105.             Windows 3.1 distribution diskettes (you have to 
  106.             find which diskette it is) to DDEML.DLL in the
  107.             C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  108.  
  109.         EXPAND.EXE must be run from the MS-DOS prompt.
  110.         The command to execute it will be something like:
  111.  
  112.            expand a:\ddeml.dl_ c:\windows\system\ddeml.dll
  113.

  117. 5. Solutions to Printing problems
  118. ---------------------------------
  119.  
  120.  Problem:    (Only observed with Everex Laser Printer) 
  121.                 Positions do not show properly on the printed 
  122.                 House chart.
  123.  
  124.  Solution:    In the Options menu, choose "Draw chart 
  125.                 options...". Once the dialog box is opened, 
  126.                 in the "House chart:" box, click to disable
  127.                 "use small characters for positions".

  132. 6. Known problems
  133. -----------------
  134.  
  135. Most the problems described here are related to specific
  136. installations or to the implementation of Windows.
  137.  
  138.  1) Printing report when using Compaq 800*600 SVGA Large Fonts
  139.     mode: 
  140.     the fonts are bigger than they are supposed to be: Arial 10
  141.     points is more like 12 points, etc.
  142.  
  143.     Solution: This problem does not appear with the same 
  144.                   driver in the 800*600 Small Fonts mode nor
  145.                   in the 640*480 VGA mode.
  146.  
  147.  2) "The chart drawing does not scroll properly when I click on
  148.     the scroll bar or on the scroll arrow".
  149.  
  150.     Solution: After you have scrolled the drawing as you
  151.                   want, click on the maximize or on the restore
  152.                   button on the upper right corner of the
  153.                   window. The window will redraw itself
  154.                   properly.
  155.  
  156.  3) In the "Report Print Shop", the [PgUp] and [PgDn] keys do
  157.     NOT always work.
  158.  
  159.     Solution: The application receives the [PgUp] and
  160.                   [PgDn] keys ONLY when the cursor (blinking
  161.                   vertical bar) is in the "Header:" or
  162.                   "Footer:" fields.
  163.  
  164.           The [PgUp] and [PgDn] keys will NOT work if 
  165.                   the "focus" is on one the radio or push 
  166.                   buttons.
  167.  
  168.           Click on one of the "Header:" or "Footer:" 
  169.                   fields or TAB to one of them.
  170.  
  171.  4) The "Copy to Clipboard" item of the "Draw" menu does NOT 
  172.     copy the complete drawing of the House (or Aspects) Chart.
  173.  
  174.     Solution: None yet.
  175.  
  176.                   Anyway, a Paste into Paintbrush is less than
  177.                   beautiful: the bitmaps drawing of Paintbrush
  178.                   cannot really use the higher resolution 
  179.                   drawings created by "Neiki's Astro Tool Kit".
  180.  
  181.           The best output for a chart is directly to a
  182.                   printer.
  183.  
  184.           A future version will provide a way to export
  185.                   a chart drawing to a file in the Windows
  186.                   "Metafile" graphics format.
  187.  
  188.  5) Though you can start "Neiki's Astro Tool Kit" two or more 
  189.     times, this will most probably lead to serious problems: 
  190.     UAE, GPF or even Windows crashing.
  191.  
  192.     The next version will forbid starting a second instance of 
  193.     the application.
  194.

  196. 7. Registering...
  197. -----------------
  198.  
  199. This software is NOT free... except for a first period of sixty
  200. (60) days to try it. The details are in LICENSE.TXT
  201.  
  202. To register this software (and unlock some of its functions)
  203. fill the registration form in REGISTER.TXT and mail it to us
  204. with your check. We will send you your personal "registration
  205. information".
  206.  
  207. Once you will have entered your personal "registration
  208. information" in the program, the following features will be
  209. enabled:
  210.     - printing of Synastry charts
  211.     - printing of Transits charts
  212.     - the menu item "Look at Sky Now", which draws an aspects
  213.       chart of the sky as it is now.
  214.

  216. Kit" is:

  228. 8. The Deluxe Edition:  "Archimede the Astrologer"

  231. There is another edition of this "Neiki" software, with more
  232. features.

  234. The name of this Deluxe Edition is: "Archimede the Astrologer"

  236. "Neiki" charts files (*.obc) and options file (options.obf)
  237. are fully compatible with "Archimede" files.

  239. "Archimede" has the same menus as "Neiki" but with some more
  240. features:
  241.     - Transits not only of "slow", but also of "fast" planets
  242.       (Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus)
  243.     - Sky Display Mode: this mode draws an aspects chart of 
  244.       the sky in real time (you select a refresh interval 
  245.       between 5 and 60 seconds)
  246.     - compute and display positions of Lilith and Chiron
  247.     - include more ephemeris files and cover the period 
  248.       between 1600 to 2680 AD
